City Center/Hanna Ave

Following the money behind Tampa's new City Center and asking how the project got from where it started to what taxpayers ultimately ended up paying. 

This project is already built so we can't stop it. I'm just looking back at what Tampa was originally quoted and how it changed along the way. What was that final cost?

Did we get what we paid for? There are lessons  her that we have learned in how we should handle major projects in the future. 

What I'm Looking At

WHAT DID HANNA ACTUALLY COST?

This Hanna project started out as a municipal-building renovation project. An earlier design-build services agreement was about 1.25M. At the end of the project the cost was over 100 M. I don't see that we ever got a true cost as to what taxpayers actually paid. 

WHY DID THE PROJECT CHANGE?

This started years earlier as a municipal-building renovation project. What changed between that project and the City Center that was ultimately built? The current building seems very vacant versus the amount of offices, conference rooms, etc. What happened to the older properties/departments  that Hanna was intended to consolidate? What savings resulted from this massive project? 

LESSON LEARNED

Before City Council votes on a major project, they—and the public—should know exactly what we're building, what it's expected to cost, and where the money is coming from.

We shouldn't be figuring out real price after we've already committed to the project.
